Overview

This Western Tatra loop is a quieter alternative to the busiest valleys, built around Wielka Polana Małołącka—a vast, level meadow where Giewont's north wall rises like a cathedral façade. The day mixes gentle lower tracks with a more rugged ridge passage and a forested descent through Dolina Miętusia.

There is real cumulative climb and natural tread; it is not a paved tourist highway. Seasonal closures apply on the higher red segment toward Giewont (winter–spring); the route expects you to respect park signage.

Shaded sections hold ice and mud in shoulder season—micro-spikes often pay off. A strong pick when you want Giewont-scale drama without signing up for chains on the same itinerary.

Wielka Polana Małołącka — A vast, flat mountain meadow that provides a breathtaking "straight-up" view of the north face of Giewont.
Wielka Turnia — A colossal limestone wall looming over the clearing, famous among professional climbers.
Przysłop Miętusi — A strategic mountain pass and a popular rest spot with a sweeping panorama of the Czerwone Wierchy (Red Peaks) massif.

Trail alerts

Ice Hazard: In March, the shaded valley floor remains frozen and slippery in the morning, turning muddy in the afternoon. Traction cleats (micro-spikes) are recommended.
Seasonal Access Notice: The red trail leading from the meadow toward Giewont (via Grzybowiec) is strictly CLOSED from Dec 1 to May 15. Do not attempt to climb higher.

Trail character

Surface: A mix of wide gravel paths in the lower valley and narrow, rocky forest trails with roots on the ridge section.
Accessibility: Not stroller-friendly. The loop involves significant elevation gain and natural mountain terrain.

Parking: Start at Gronik entrance; paid TPN parking and bus stop are located right at the trailhead.

National Park Rules: Strictly no dogs (except Chochołowska valley floor and Droga pod Reglami). No swimming in lakes. Admission fee applies.
Sunset Rule: From March 1 to November 30, all TPN trails are closed from dusk to dawn to protect wildlife and for safety. Plan your return before sunset.
