Wielki Kopieniec: The Pastoral Peak

Overview

Wielki Kopieniec from Jaszczurówka is a compact "high reward" summit above Zakopane: forest approach, pastoral Polana Kopieniec with shepherd huts, then a rocky top at 1,328 m with sweeping 360° views toward Giewont and the High Tatras.

The final pull uses limestone stairs and natural rock—often slick after rain or frosty mornings—so it feels tougher than the distance suggests. March can alternate frozen tread and afternoon slush.

Start is easy to reach by city bus; there is no need for Kuźnice logistics. A strong choice when you want a half-day peak without committing to the busiest trailheads, with an optional traverse variant to Toporowa Cyrhla for one-way routing.

Points of interest

  • Polana Kopieniec — A picturesque meadow with traditional wooden shepherd huts; famous for spring crocuses.
  • Wielki Kopieniec (1328 m) — A rocky summit providing an unobstructed panorama of the High and Western Tatras.
  • Olczyska Valley — Scenic glimpses of the deep forested valley below.
  • Traverse to Toporowa Cyrhla — Switch to a one-way traverse route (-30 min).
