Overview

Kitty's Gorge Trail is a 7.14 km walk through Serpentine National Park, linking Serpentine Falls with Jarrahdale. It follows the Serpentine River and then Gooralong Brook up through the forest of the Darling Scarp, crossing the water on a footbridge. It is a point-to-point walk with 250 m of ascent, not a circuit.

Points of interest

Serpentine Falls — Waterfalls on the Serpentine River where it comes off the scarp. They sit 110 m off the line at km 0.4 and are reached by their own path, 832 m there and back from the trail. This is the only named place mapped anywhere along the route.

Trail alerts

This is not a circuit. The line ends at Jarrahdale, well away from where it begins, and on foot the only way back is the whole trail again.

Trail character

Every metre of the line is footpath: no road section anywhere on the route, and nothing on it left untagged.
The route follows the Serpentine River and, further up, Gooralong Brook, through the forest of the Darling Scarp. Near where the two watercourses meet it crosses on a footbridge, with an older timber bridge standing just upstream.
Walked in the published direction, from Serpentine Falls up to Jarrahdale, it gains 250 m and loses 33 m, rising from about 42 m beside the river to 265 m at the far end. The climbing comes in two stretches, one shortly after the falls and a final pull into Jarrahdale, with a long middle holding between roughly 150 and 200 m. Walked the other way it is almost all descent.

Access & rules

The walk begins at the Serpentine Falls end of Serpentine National Park, in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale, and finishes at Jarrahdale. It stays inside that one district throughout.
There is parking at both ends, according to the account of the colleague who walked it on 11.09.2026; neither end has been confirmed against a published source. Returning to the start needs a second vehicle or someone to collect you.
Dog access is unconfirmed. We hold no Western Australian government source for this park, so its rules on dogs, camping and swimming are not stated here — ask the managing authority. The Gooralong camping and day-use area, near the Jarrahdale end, was closed in the mid-2000s.
